European Commissioner for Internal Market, Industry and Enterprise Thierry Breton urged Netflix CEO Reed Hastings to temporarily suspend HD videos.

According to him, if the quality of this platform decreases, Internet traffic will be significantly reduced. After some Europeans remained in quarantine, Netflix's share increased. Because they cannot spend time outdoors, they are looking for entertainment on the streaming platform.

Hastings agreed to Brenton's suggestion that he would reduce data consumption by 25% over the next 30 days. However, it is not clear whether they will do so only in the European Union or worldwide.

So far, we do not know whether it will accept a temporary shutdown of HD and UHD quality or just reduce video bitrate and whether it will be for a month or during peak hours.
