16.4.2021 | Ireland’s Data Protection Commission (DPC) investigate Facebook for “data leakage” of millions of Facebook users

A data leak involving personal details of hundreds of millions of Facebook users is being reviewed by Ireland's Data Protection Commission (DPC).

The database consists of the Facebook profile names, phone numbers, location information, and other sensitive data of about 530 million users worldwide and it was published for free on one of the notorious Hacking Forum. Because of this the information is believed to be widely available to many people. Acording to the statistics, the personal information of 533 million people from 106 countries has been breached.

Currently Ireland’s Data Protection Commission (DPC) has been investigating and asking questions to Facebook as to why this had happened. Facebook also said the data was “old” and the flaw was fixed about a year and a half ago. However, despite the claims of the data being "old", some security researchers remain concerned due to the unchanging nature of the data involved.
