Apple has long had a Podcasts app on its platforms, but this time, the company is trying a completely different approach. According to reports, what it wants to do is to release a podcast service available with a subscription and which would provide users with content worth paying for.

This is nothing new for the podcast market since a similar system is already being used by many people. Spotify itself spent millions of dollars on purchasing exclusive rights for popular shows.

Apple is very likely to sign exclusive deals for a series of popular podcasts, which means the only way you’ll be able to listen to them will be by paying for the content. For now, however, it looks like Apple is still in the planning phase, with the company said to be involved in discussions with a series of partners as we speak.As for whether this will become another ATM machine for Apple . . . we will have to wait and see.
