Acer's “antimicrobial” laptops have been around for a few years, but they became particularly notable during the COVID-19 pandemic as interest in being extra cleanly was particularly strong.

During its next@Acer event on October 14, the company announced three new PCs—a laptop, a two-in-one, and a tablet which will feature this bacteria-resistant technology. The antimicrobial solutions fight germs via two methods, silver ion technology and antimicrobial Corning Gorilla Glass.

As Silver ions are known to dramatically reduce the growth rate of microbes upon contact, the former requires to apply Silver ions (Ag) to multiple areas of the device, including the surface of the chassis, keyboard, display, touchpad, hinge, fingerprint reader and more. The special Corning Gorilla Glass is also coated with Silver ions to help prevent from harmful bacteria.
